A recent survey carried out by Markit/CIPS UK Manufacturing PMI® has shown that manufacturing in the UK grew at a stronger pace in May than it had in over a year. The survey showed that production had increased and that the cost of raw materials had dropped slightly. The domestic market was also responsible for driving the demand for new business meaning that new orders had also increased for the third consecutive month. New orders for export are also thought to have risen, with increased demand from other large countries such as Germany and Russia. There was also an indication from the survey that due to this increase the Manufacturing sector created jobs for the first time in four months.
